Love

Author: Rebecca Ferrini, San Diego, CA

When conversations slow down

I can hear you better

I let your words sink in

Quieting my inner voice

My agreements, disagreements

Releasing what “I wanted to say before I forgot” to forgetting

Oh well

Asking you to tell me more

Sparing my analysis and judgement

Pausing for my own reactions

That tell me much more about my needs than you

I should explore those later

Stretching out space in the clutter of me

To let you in

And to walk together

I love this poem, it really makes you think about how we can declutter our minds and focus on really listening to each other.

Oh my gosh, yes! I absolutely have let go of forgetting what I was going to say. The whole rhythm of real conversations has changed with the pace. And the depth.
